The tenth man on the historic list of twelve who have set foot on the
moon, General Charles Duke was commissioned in the Air Force after graduating
from the Naval Academy in 1957. In 1964, he received a Master of Science
degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology. Having extensive service as a fighter-interceptor pilot
and as an instructor, he has flown many types of aircraft including
F-101s, F-104s and T-33s, logging over 4,000 hours
flying time.
Following his selection as an astronaut, General Duke was a member
of the support crew for the Apollo 10 flight and served as backup lunar
module pilot for the Apollo 13 and 17 flights. From April 16 to 27,
1972, General Duke was the lunar module pilot on the Apollo 16 mission.
Apollo 16 was the first scientific expedition to inspect, survey, and
sample materials and surface features in the Descartes region of the
rugged lunar highlands.
General Duke will be sharing about his lunar exploration and how a
personal relationship with God affected his life.
